If
expired medicines are disposed of wrongly, they end up dispersing into the environment: the active ingredients can damage the subsoil, pollute the drinking water wells and compromise the functioning of the purifiers of the sewage networks.
Therefore they need a different way of disposal, the
expired drugs must therefore be collected separately from other waste in a special
bin for expired medicines (often placed outside pharmacies).
Subsequently
expired drugs are not recycled but, due to their potential toxicity, they are collected and treated separately from other waste. Each Region decides the different methods through which to carry out the collection, methods that may also vary according to the different Municipalities.
